While returning from Rockingham, NC, on Hwy 1 after spending time with my wife’s aunt that was extremely ill. It was prior to leaving with my wife and 3 children for an overseas assignment. While driving on Hwy 1 between Rockingham and Aberdine, I suddenly saw a circular object moving over the Hwy. I stopped just off the road and watched the object until it disappeared. It moved rather slowly with colored lights on the outer perimeter and was turning slowly in a circular motion. The object was just over the height of the trees so easily seen. I have never seen anything like it before or since. I thought it might be a craft related to Pope Air Force base or Fort Brag, which are both in the area but it was strange enough to discount that thought and believe it was a UFO.
