Triangle of lights with a red drone(?) spotted over Southern Wisconsin.
I'm sorry, the date is just a wild guess. I just know it happened before I got my driver's license in October of 1977.
I was on a campout with my Boy Scout troop on a farm outside Cuba City. We were playing a game of "Spotlight," where one guy stands with a flashlight and tries to spot the others crawling through the field on their bellies.
I was next to a good friend of mine and we decided to roll over onto our backs and watch the stars. The night was very clear and very quiet, other than yelling coming from the game.
We saw a single, steady red light travelling in a straight line from our right. (Sorry, I don't know the directions.) We thought it was a satellite. When it was nearly above us, three of the stars forming an equilateral triangle began moving with it.
The red light never stopped moving. As soon as it reached the center of the triangle, the other three lights were suddenly moving at the red light's speed.
I can't really estimate the height of the object or its size.
The sky was dark enough that all we saw were the lights, no outline of the object itself.
