I was driving on a country road to my home. I was traveling east. About 100 yards before my lane, I looked south to see if the lights were on at my home. In the valley below and the hill following was a huge, very bright light which was lighting up the hill and the valley. I tried to watch it to my lane and after turning to lighted direction, found nothing in the sky. My thoughts have always been that it was a flare. I couldn't watch long enough while driving to really give a better description. The size seemed to be about that of the moon. It's color was a blinding reddish orange. It's range 1/2 mile, and altitude a few hundred feet. Very bright and stationary.
