1969-07-01 - Redding, CA

The craft was black, it was similar to a Chinook Helicopter, no sound.

I was eight years old at the time of this sighting. It was summer 1969 clear and sunny. I was in the front yard playing and looked up for some reason and saw this object quietly passing over head. I had a side view maybe a 70 degree angle so I could see what looked like a cone on the top, front and rear of the object. The main body was like a tube, flat on the front and rear. It roughly resembled a Chinook helicopter with no rotors. If it was a Chinook would say it was maybe 1000 feet high. I rode on Chinooks a lot working in Afghanistan and you could hear them coming before you seen them. It passed over head roughly North to South maybe 40 or 50 MPH headed south towards the west side of Redding. I ran inside and told my mom and she didn’t care. I remember I would draw pictures of it in school for a couple of years, it really burned into my mind. This is the only strange thing I have seen, I felt I should report it better late than never.
